The Brera area around the restaurant
The restaurant is located in "Brera", an elegant and historic area– the name
derives from "prato", which means “lawn” – with its little lanes dotted with
bars and restaurants to enliven the Milanese nights. Brera also features the famous “Accademia d'arte” (Academy for the fine arts) which until a few
years ago attracted bohemian painters and writers alike.
In the same building as the Accademia is contained is the ‘Pinacoteca di
Brera’ (astonishing ‘palazzo’ owned by the Jesuits until '700) , one of the
most important public picture-gallery's in the world. It treasures masterpieces from Raffaello, Mantegna and Piero della Francesca, temporary art exhibitions are held
here. In Brera one can find both ancient churches reminiscent of past centuries
like the ‘Chiesa del Carmine’, and many more recent famous buildings, such
as the new Strehler Theatre.
